Celebrating Women

There is a war going on.

No, not the big one in Iraq with the guns and sand--I'm talking about the one at home, between fat people and skinny people.

You're right, I said it: fat. Skinny. When did these become curse words anyway?

Now, hold your horses--fat people are getting ready for a rallying cheer of, "Hell, yeah, I'm curvy and beautiful!" and skinny people are bracing themselves for a slew of skinny-hate and thinking up their own retorts ("You call that healthy? Curves, not entire other worlds.")

Neither.

You heard me, neither. I'm sick of this, all of it. All the self-hate, all the hate to others. Do you realize how much hate there is in the world? We hate Republicans, we hate Democrats. We hate Americans, we hate other countries. We hate fat people, we hate skinny people, we hate telemarketers, we hate people who don't agree with us, we hate hate hate hate. Yeah, it seems innocuous enough, you're just using a word, right? I'm an English major. I can tell you the power of one word.

Real women have curves. Real women are stick-thin. Real women are women. They're real and beautiful, no matter what they look like. There is beauty in everything, and everybody.

So, celebrating women--

Women are curvy.

Bravo. I'm 180 lbs. BITCH! And I'm happy the way I am!

[identity profile] kitsjay.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm 165 pounds--

And not afraid to admit it!

Very well put. I think you get your point across very well and I agree wholeheartedly.

Like my icon says, "Vote for Vader" cuz he'll end this war, yo! (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)

[identity profile] feldspars.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'd vote for Vader. Totally.

[identity profile] be-merry.livejournal.com 2007-03-29 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I think, if we all voted for Vader, the world would improve so much. I mean, he's just the perfect candidate for the job.

I know, right? Whereas Bush deploys troops to Iraq, Vader would just blow up it up. Problem solved.

Precisely. And none of this "Oh, we stepped on this country's toes. We need to do X to make it better." It'd be the other countries quivering, whether we stepped on toes or not. :)

I wish I had worded it better? Things I feel strongly about tend to get jumbled up.

Just... God, I'm so tired of hate, and people not being proud of who they are. I mean, what you look like is going to change. That's a given. Who you are is not--so why not work on what's going to be around the longest?

Your point came across clearly though, which is the main objective.

I completely agree with that.

157 (I went to the doctor yesterday so I know exactly) And I know that's not a bad weight but I'm still unhappy about it. I think it's because I actually felt heathier and better about myself when I weigh 140.

In any case, I loved that Fat Rant video. Good points made there. But good God, some people commenting on it were ignorant bastards.

akjflajf. I'm not even worried anymore. I'm just happy.

I didn't read the comments...?

I think what I liked best about it is that she doesn't go on a rant about skinny girls. I liked that she's just kind of "Accept your body, no matter what it looks like." Some girls are built big, some small. It's not a big deal, or at least it shouldn't be.

She's a model too--seriously, really my hero.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_celtic_rose_/ 2007-03-30 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
exactly I liked that too.

I'm not surprised, she's really pretty.

YES. Exactly. People - not just women, but everyone - should be happy with the way they look. Of course there are extremes, and too fat/skinny isn't healthy, but you can still love yourself while you're losing/gaining weight. That video by Joy Nash was really interesting, thanks for linking to it. I couldn't believe she was 224lbs - she really knew the right sort of clothes to flatter her figure and she has amazing attitude. So, while we're all being open... I'm 120lbs and completely and utterly happy with that weight.

Also, I love those pictures from Campaign For Real Beauty - I recognised them straight away. I have it as my website because I hope that maybe just one girl will stumble across my profile and click on it and think, hmm, maybe I don't have to change myself in order to be "beautiful".

Anyway, thank you for posting this. :)

You're welcome. :))

I've visited Campaign for Real Beauty, and that one with the little girls talking about what they think is wrong with them is just heartbreaking. (I'm such a sap).

And Joy Nash... I think what I like best about her is that she makes some valid points, especially about using fat as an excuse, and how we should be happy how we look--but still strive to better ourselves. What I love best about it is how she does it without putting anyone else down. She's just so positive, it just makes me feel better watching it.

:) Sounds silly, but true.
