Nov. 2nd, 2010 04:49 amMinecraft is eating my brain.
For those who don't know, Minecraft is a sandbox PC game wherein you collect materials and build things out of them, while avoiding zombies and monsters at night. It's incredibly, incredibly fun. I refer you to the Penny Arcade comic strips for a basic run-down of what it's like to be playing this game.
Anyway, it's $14 if you buy it now and you get the full game when it comes out if you buy it during the Alpha stage. So I figured sure, if I like it, I'll have the game before it goes up 100%, if not, whatever, I'm out a dinner a nicer restaurant.
So. Much. Fun.
I haven't even begun to do all the cool things yet--you can build underground rollercoasters (Indiana Jones theme optional), the Starship Enterprise to scale, or even a computer within the computer game that can play the game inside the game (your brain still there?)--but I've got a nice looking castle going on with a tree growing inside.
Sean, naturally, was the one who introduced me to the game and his world is frickin' awesome. Just take a look at some of the pictures he sent me. His base is "The Fortress of Solitude", and his mine tracks are based at "Grand Central Station". Also, those columns of fire? Glass surrounding lava.
( Seriously, these look like they were generated, rather than him building it. )
There are a lot of in this post, but seriously, the most important one is this . You can plan online, but check it out if you can. It's definitely a great game and the guy working on it installs updates all the time--which are automatically downloaded to you if you buy the game.
